I have two Drones 1.0 versions and one is 14 months old which went in for a repair just before it went out of warranty for wi-fi issues and my new Drone also has wi-fi issues where i get the "control link not available message" whilst flying, this link explains it perfectly - http://forum.parrot.com/ardrone/en/view … hp?id=3943  its a pain as it comes on then off, on/off etc.. and makes it nearly impossible to fly.

Now all this started on my older Drone when i updated it to 1.10.10 and i believe this firmware has also messed up my new Drone, and i also know of many people with the same problem so its not just me having these issues.

I'd like to know if you realize there's a problem or not as many people are experiencing this and does the new update help this issue?

I was flying on a Track and Field area in a park with no wifi around whatsoever, ive since tried it on my driveway today and I Put in a fully charged Turnigy Lipo and the new Drone seemed fine, I left it in a hover and walked away from it over 30 meters away and still had the signal and that was on Drone Ace and the Freeflight app so, I'm going to charge up the stock batteries and try them again, as I had the problem when I was using them yesterday.

As for my older Drone, i sent it back a few weeks ago with wifi problems as far as I'm concerned it still has the same problem, firing it up on a full battery sometimes it sends out a wifi signal and sometimes it doesn't and even when I get all green lights on the motors, after a few seconds they go red and the wifi is gone again so I'll be calling parrot again and send it back as it still has 2 weeks warranty left!

Well i had a not so good experience today.

First of all i have 2 Drones (1.0) and an iphone 4s.

My 11 month old Drone was sent in to Parrot a few weeks ago as i was having wifi issues and i had the drone drop dead twice for no reason whatsoever when i had it flying around the house.

So anyway i now have one repaired/refurbished Drone and a Brand new Drone which i finally took out today after a couple of weeks.

So here's what happened, i first tried out my old Drone, full battery's on the go, connected all the wifi and updated to 1.10.12, opened up Freeflight and took off but as the Drone got about 10m away i got the Control Link Not Available on screen, and the Drone stayed in a hover until i got closer and tried connecting to the drone again, eventually i or itself landed onto the grass.
I then tried starting it up again and the app was saying the drone wasn't connected to the wifi, but going back to settings on my iphone it clearly was, anyway i opened up the app again and all was ok? but the same thing happened i'd get so far away and had the control link not available again, i also tried Drone Ace and that did the same thing,at first it said no wifi connection and to open it offline but when i closed the app and re-opened it up again it was all good, but after flying the control link error would show up so i would move closer to the drone and it would say "flying" on screen, then i could control it again and then i couldn't it was a bit erratic trying to establish a connection.

So then i tried the Brand new Drone "0" flying time and exactly the same thing is happening to this one its controls fine when i fly it near me but as soon as i fly about 5-10 meters away the Control link error appears again. the final straw was seeing how far it would go until i got no control over it, it got about 15 meters and when i lost control it was hovering but moving forward slightly and started to move towards a fence, so i started chasing towards it to try and gain control but before i could it crashed just before the fence onto some grass. No damage luckily after only about 10 mins of trying to fly a brand new drone.

So any ideas? could it be the latest firmware causing issues, as it's strange its happening to both Drones.

These Turnigy nano-tech's are highly recommended by people on the forums including me
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor … _Pack.html

only $9.37 from hobbyking

Then its a case of getting some of these adapters
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor … _bag_.html

Or just solder some of these on
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor … oduct=9637

Simple and cheap, they last about 15 mins and although it say's they weigh 119g, mine weighed 106g.

guys, whats the best paint for the indoor hull as its a a foam base i know a lot of car paints melt foam?

If its the actual Foam your painting then I'm not sure but if it's the Outdoor/Indoor Shell you need Tamiya Polycarbonate Paint about $10 a can, if your spraying the outside of the Hull apply a base coat of 5-6 thin layers then apply the top coat, again layer it up slowly then to finish use a clear coat to help protect the paint.

Here's a link to a Hull I finished today with a bit of info on the paint.

I've started to leave mine at full charge, after a bit of research on the Net, i have read that LiPo's are absolutely fine and should be stored with charge in them and they can be stored this way for 6 months + before they start to lose any of there power.

So whoever said a week needs to do more research.

Nice job ch33zeburg3r.  What did you use to cut the foam, or did it come like that?

I used foam called Pick 'n' Pluck, you just basically pluck the little squares out as you need to, nice and easy that way.

I made my own Case for taking the Drone Outdoors

http://i56.tinypic.com/14bmgc5.jpg

http://i56.tinypic.com/1zx8ubk.jpg

http://i56.tinypic.com/iwnj91.jpg

The Case just fit the Drone in with room for some play on the Propellers, and i may fit the Power Supply and Balancer on both sides at the Front of the Drone between the props, but not sure yet, i'm just waiting on another couple of batteries then i can see where everything is going to  fit.
So no more big cardboard box to carry about to the Park.

Total Cost was $60 (Australian)

Case - $30 (This was purchased at Bunnings, a D.I.Y store and was Originally a Tool Case)
Foam - $20
and some Glue Spray $10

I've just ordered the same battery from Hobbyking, just waiting on delivery now, but yes this battery will work fine but you will need to change the end that plugs into the Drone with one of these -

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor … oduct=9637

The balancing plug is the same, but it won't charge any Faster, i'd say around 2hrs seeing as its 1300mah, but youwill get a slighlty longer flight time.

If its Flashing Red/Green then you probably have a faulty Battery, my Stock Parrot battery started to do this after about 5 charges but it was taking around 3 hrs until it finally started flashing Red/Green, Parrot told me it would more likely be a fault and to get it replaced.

It seems strange that it flashes after 30mins-1hr i would think a battery of that size would take about 2-3hrs to charge anyway. Also bear in mind a battery that weighs 180g compared to the Stock battery which is about 108g will make the motors work that little harder because of the extra weight and also the drone is only designed to fly around 10mins at any one time so the motors don't overheat.

Once I bumped into this thing, wheels started to turn....how can I make a buck with this thing.

The issues I am having are I am anti-Apple.   Right now I do not own, nor will I buy Apple products in general,
simply because they refuse to support Flash!

I also do not own a Droid phone.   I am still on an ancient Samsung flip phone that doesn't even have texting!!

I am wondering if I can pick up an old iphone, can I install the app without having actual phone service?

Next...the video really got me interested in this thing.  I want to be able to record the video but I thought I read
with Apple and it's stupidity for proprietary this and that....recording can't be done?  If this is the case, then
forget the Drone.   What are my options for recording video?

Continuing talking about video, what about upgrades...like resolution, codecs, etc?  I'd love to be able to record in HD!

Now, on to WiFi.  Can the output power on the Drone be kicked up?  I'd like to be able to fly over house tops, tree tops, etc. and
not be worried about losing the drone because I lost WiFi connectivity.  For a fresh out of the box unit,  what is the height that
the drone can reach safely?

I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Thanks,

Ray

I'm not sure but i don't see why you would need a phone service to fly the Drone as its basically just an App and your Phone that does the flying, it has nothing to do with a provider.

Yes there are a couple of Apps (not free) that let you record the video of the Drone, DroneAce has sound too, not sure about upgrades for the Video though, people do strap on different cameras but i'm no pro in this field.

Wifi has a 50 meter range, but i havent personally taken it out of its maximum height limit as yet as i'm new to this Drone buisness too.

I'm sure you will get more detailed answers, if not do a search.

Ok i want another couple of batteries for my Drone and have been looking on HobbyKing but i'm not sure which one's are best as i'm kinda new to all this and don't have much knowledge of Lipo's.

What i want is a battery that's around 1000mah-1350mah in that range and NO bigger and i'd want it to be as close as possible in wieght to Parrots battery.

My second question is will i need to put on different connections and what kind do i get, and also would HobbyKing put these on for me or is a simple task?

And thirdly can anyone recommend any charges on HobbyKing that will charge more than one battery at a time because if i buy another two i will have four all up.

Any advice would be appreciated and i'm only really looking at buying from HobbyKing really.

Personally i think they look a bit Daft on the drone but that's just my opinion, yes they are there for protection and i'm sure they work fine but they ain't for me.

I think we all find it confusing i certainly do, i might try disabling the Accelerometer though sounds like a Plan.

I'm Happy so far, only had it a month and had a few small crashes into small Bushes at very low speed but its been fine for me, i haven't disabled the height restriction as yet as i am still learning to fly it well outdoors.

Most of my crashes have come about when the drones camera is facing me, then of course the left/right controls go opposite so it can get a little confusing having the Drone heading towards me and if it starts veering to the left towards an obstacle, the natural instinct is to tilt the iphone to the right, but of course this is then the wrong thing to do.

Anyway so far so Good ;o)

I've had mine for a month and absolutely love it, yes it's true that people come on forums when they have problems, even I got a bit concerned but then I thought how many Drone uses are actually out there enjoying it for what it is? (thousands) so don't worry treat it well and have fun.

My advice would be to learn how to fly it slowly Indoors if you have enough space then when you do take it outside, make sure it's not windy and there'd plenty of space so if you lose control there'd nothing to crash into.

I fully charged the Battery when I took it out of the Box before I Flew the Drone, so I guess I should Email Parrot to see what they say about it.

Thanks for the Info.

Well first off i'd like to say hello  as i'm kinda new here and have now had my Drone for 4 weeks and so far i'm very happy with it, in fact i'm loving the thing.

Anyway my concern is with the battery not the Flight time that seems to be fine, it's the charging it that concerns me, so here goes when i first charged it up everything seemed fine, the Red status light came on and after 3hrs the light turned to Green as it should, after reading a few post's on here i thought maybe the longer charging time was due to the battery being brand new so i went along with it.

After 4 charges or so it was still taking 3 hrs to fully charge, and the red LED's would blink to say it was balancing the Cells and at the end i'd get the green status light. But now after 6+ charges its still taking around 3 hrs to charge but now i'm getting the flashing Red/Green light instead of the Solid green light, and as i've read the flashing lights mean the battery is being conditioned?

Now i have a second battery that is 1350mah and this takes 2 hrs to fully charge (which to me for a slightly larger battery seems ok) and i always get a Solid Green light when its done.

So anyone know why its taking so long to charge?

Thanks

Hi all just got mine from Amazon Monday 25th,not really had a fly of it yet, i just tested it to see if it worked, and all seems good, very impressive ive wanted one since i first saw them on The Gadget Show back in the U.K, yes i'm a Pomm lol living in Melbourne.

Looking forward to some slow and steady flying at the weekend just to get used to it, should have my spare battery by then.
