Topic: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

After a completely correct flight

  • uploaded the 2.2.3 firm with FTP.

  • Restart the dron

  • when the update finished, shaked the 1., 3., 4. motors but 2th not.
Leds remain red except the middle.

  • Restart.
    same, shakeing 1., 3., 4.

In Freeflight app blinking a red text: MOTOR EMERGENCY

In setup motor 1, 3 and 4:
Type 1.1
Hardware 5.0
Software 1.42

2:
Type 0.0
Hardware 0.0
Software 0.0

  • downgrade to 2.0.16
Freeflight app crash when i push setup

  • reupgrade 2.2.3
    no change

Any idea?

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Exactly the same here. Flew fine two days ago then upgraded firmware today. Every thing seem fine until drone restarted and missed out motor 2 on startup. It's also showing zeros in the diag page. Seems odd that 2 people have the same motor fault after firmware upgrade.  sad

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Are you sure you are using the right firmware?   It is:  http://sdrv.ms/NlAv2J

I see no motor problems in mine!

Might also be a corrupted download.   Do not trust downloads.  Do 2 or 3.  Compare files!

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

I'm starting to think the motor problem isn't a firmware problem... but more of an update problem.. it started happening with 2.1.18 and then 2.1.20 and now this... i wonder if there's a fairly common fail in random update processes that cause this to happen... such a common occurrence over a spread of newer updates it's gadda be something in the update process itself... just thinking out loud

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

I was hoping that the new motor software 1.42 fixes these random burnouts.
I guess not.  mad

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Could you make a checksum for the file?

downloaded 4 times (with explorer, chrome and 2x with firefox) and all four versions equal
Downloaded to my workplace (different PC, differenr opsys, different network)
uncompressed, compared the plf with the uploaded plf from my phone: the files are equal
plf size is 10871140

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

I think the drone will perform a checksum prior to the actual updating.
I see that the drone runs 'checkplf' before updating.

@kornelius,

Could you check if there is any visible damage to the motor board (ESC) of motor 2, specifically the 3 MOSFETs?

I checked yesterday evening, there is nothing any visible problem

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Hmmm...

Try this:

Disconnect motors 1,3,4 from the center cross cables - to prevent any possible damage to the good motors

Connect motor 2 to either of the cables for motors 1,3,4 - rule out cable or motor position issue

Do a reset through the pinhole under the battery - I always do a pinhole reset prior to upgrading/downgrading firmware

Upgrade again to 2.2.3 using Freeflight 2.1.6 if possible, if not, just use the usual FTP method - hopefully this will reflash the motor board to 1.42

Check if motor 2 is initializing correctly - check if motor version is no longer 0.0

I don't guarantee it will work, but no harm in trying.

Good luck!

Good idea, i'll try it when i will go home, thanks!

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Kornelius do not strip your drone it isn't a hardware problem. I've rolled back to a previous firmware on my drone and motor 2 is functional again. Odd one this I must say . Parrot any idea what can stop one motor from upgrading itself but the other 3 to be ok ?

Tried the procedure. The situation is next:
If all upgraded motors disconnected, the reported 0.0 motor firmware restored for 1.41
upgrade to 2.2.3 and the motor missed again
down to 2.0.16
motor reanimated with 1.41
replug all motors, all motor firmware down to 1.41

so there is no way to upgrade my dron to 2.2.3 because one motor dropping if i try.
I wrote yesterday evening to Parrot in support site, but no answer
Is there a guarantee for this expensive toy?

Now my drone is working with 1.41 motor firmware and 2.0.16 dron firmware
I swapped the No. 1 and 2 motors and waiting to charge the battery.
Then i'll try the upgrade again

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

I have the exact same problem, everything was working fine before the firmware update now motor 2 will not work. I have tried downgrading to 16 however this did not fix the issue. I know its not hardware as i did a quick hover before upgrading then when upgrade complete all these issues. I hope i can rectify soon as this is annoying

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Mine flew fine after the upgrade (and before for that matter even with the "bad" firmware) through about 4 batteries worth of time.  Then the right front motor (looking from the rear) went pfft.  Smoke came out and everything.  Now it won't initalize.  The other three try, but when the fourth won't, they all quit.  Still within the 60 days at Brookstone, so it's going back.

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

I also have a problem with one of my motors after upgrading to the latest firmware. First the right front motor starten to spin randomly without me doing anything. After a second restart of the drone it stoped spinning, but now the led of the motor is showing red most of the times while flying. Everything is working fine otherwise, and the motor data shows correct.

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Parrot answered for my email (on support page, 02.aug):

"Hello ,

Could you please delete the application Ar Free Flight and download it again.
Deconnect and reconnect the WiFi from your mobile or tablette.
Put the battery full charge on The Drone and push the Reset button four seconde
Remove and replace the battery.
Reconnect the Wifi on the Drone and start the application Ar free Flight.
If you get the same problem please contact your dealer for swap your Parrot product.
Best regard ,"

The letter was received after that I sent the drone to dealer.

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Thanks, kornelius, for the info, but I think...at least in my case...once the smoke came out of the motor, the Geni was out of the bottle and the game is over.

Sorry  sad

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Well mine will not work whatsoever, have just got off the phone to parrot Australia and they inform me to post it back to them (at my expense) so they can fix it. What annoying is postage is around $50.

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

Update: Went to Brookstone last night - the store at which I purchased the drone...even the same salesman. although the receipt clearly states they want you to be happy, and will exchange or refund up to 30 days and exchange only up to 60 days, and I am still one week inside the 60 days, they WILL NOT exchange my drone with the defective motor.  Even though it clearly has no crash damage or user abuse.
At the time of sale, they tried to get me to purchase the extended warrantee, and I asked if I had bought that, would it have made any difference.  They said no, they wouldn't honor that either.  Great Customer Service!  I will be contacting their headquarters this morning, and the CT Attorney General's Office as well.

From the BROOKSTONE/PARROT CUSTOMER PURCHASE AGREEMENT for my own Brookstone Drone 2.0:

RETURNS AND WARRANTY:
• Unopened and unused AR.Drones can be returned to Brookstone in accordance with
Brookstone’s normal return policy...

• Any returns of opened, damaged, or used AR.Drones must be handled directly through
Parrot.

But mine was purchased online--not sure if the same PA applies to in-store.

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

If that PA applies to in-store purchases, I never was given a copy or signed one, and there is no such wording on the receipt.

Re: Motor problem after upgrade 2.2.3

I looked again and it does say "By clicking the Add to Cart button, you ack these terms" so I guess it never did apply to in-store purchases, sorry.

Nor was it included in the box itself, and iirc the box only had a slip "Do not return to store, call us..." ie. per usual nowadays.
