Topic: WiFi Repeaters

Just wondered how you use a wifi repeater to increase the range of the drone.  The only wifi repeaters I have seen plug into the mains, how do you use them in conjunction with the drone.

Re: WiFi Repeaters

I am not sure even if it is possible or not..! Hope you will get it fixed soon.

Also people are using battery packs with the range extenders to free them from an outlet.

Re: WiFi Repeaters

Another option is to use a small/cheap AC inverter with i.e. your vehicle battery.

Re: WiFi Repeaters

Or this

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh621/b00mb00mchuck411/1342612393-picsay.jpg

1)short pigtail for repeater socket... mini tamiya connector matches lipo
2)a/c main with mini tamiya connector matches pigtail
3)long pigtail option with mini tamiya
4)power adapter for automobile with mini tamiya to match pigtails

This way you can run your repeater on lipo or automobile or a/c main power just by switching some plugs around

Re: WiFi Repeaters

Of course, you have to get a repeater that works with the DC battery voltage you intend to use e.g. some repeaters are 5v and some are 48v.

The wood is just an easy way to carry the repeater and battery and battery alarm (not in photo) the wood also has a threaded hole in the bottom to mount on my tripod out in an open area...

2,3 and 4 I think you can forget.

#2 is important for when the repeater becomes a home repeater again
#3 and #4 come in handy when I'm at the r/c field with my truck and I can just leave the repeater on the roof of the truck with the long wire plugged in for however long I want to

Lipo is no problem for me because I have a battery alarm... no risk of low voltage

The repeater stays on the ground... it has much more sensitive antenna and a stronger receiver amp than any control device... it reaches out and communicates with the drone and repeats the signal to your controller (iPAD / ANDROID ETC...)

Thanks Chuck its clear, I was also thinking in that way, because the tablets are not made for this range.

Re: WiFi Repeaters

OK question, maybe somebody knows this (I am not so good in these things).
I have a Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Gateway with SRX200, model WAG54GX2
Is this thingy usable as a wifi repeater? and if yes, knows somebody how to setup the thing?
This should be perfect, it has 12VDC, that means power from the car...  tongue
(sorry for my language, I am Dutch)  hmm

Thanks in advanced.

Please Parrot take this offer from b00mb00mchuck.  He is very helpful in answering ARDrone 2.0 customers problems and questions.  I vote for b00mb00mchuck to be added as moderator!!!

Re: WiFi Repeaters

Ok just ordered the Amped SR300 so i am sure i will need help setting it up when it comes in. I have a battery back that i can just plug in to that will last over 8 hours so that is no problem just not sure how to set up the wireless connections and once you set it up will it remember the settings each time so it is just plug and play after it is set up?

Re: WiFi Repeaters

The sr300 comes with a quick start guide and an Ethernet cable to set it up with a laptop or PC ... once it is set up it will remember all the settings even when unplugged for long periods... it's super easy

They even have this YouTube tutorial
