Topic: Absolute Controls are reversed

AR.Drone 2.0 with Android (Galaxy Nexus):

First few flights were perfect and absolute control worked flawlessly.  This morning, every time absolute controls are turned on, all movements are in reverse.  When I tilt towards me, the AR.Drone moves away from me, when I move it right, it moves left.  I even tried lifting off with camera facing out and I am standing directly behind it.

I have unsuccessfully tried to fix by:
- resetting the AR.Drone (no effect)
- Calibrating it while hovering (no effect)
- Rebooting both phone and AR.Drone several times (no effect)

Any ideas?

Thanks -- but no dice.  Everything is still reversed.

Re: Absolute Controls are reversed

what happens if you turn the drone around?

Everything worked perfectly the first 24 hours.  Then it started to function opposite.  Does not seem to matter what I do.  I've started it in front/behind and no difference.

My next test will be to try my wife's iPhone.  If it still exhibits the same behavior, than I know it's the AR.Drone and not the phone/software.

That's actually the way we're always supposed to do it to use absolute positioning. My very first flight was backwards like you note because I did it wrong. When you first take off on a fresh battery it assumes you are standing behind the drone (the end dead opposite the camera) and it calibrates absolute position for that. If you start it with the camera facing you, everything will be backward. It gets very strange if you're at any in-between angle.

It sounds like you've already done what I usually do to fix this: land, reposition the drone so the camera points directly away from me (usually causing a 'too much angle emergency' while doing so because I carry it sideways to a clearer takeoff point), then trim level and take off. It's generally flying true after doing this. I'm not sure if the trim or the emergency or both help reset the compass or not.

Good luck in getting it working.

I've managed to find a work-around/fix:

1. Turn off Absolute Control
2. Turn on Joystick
3. Takeoff
4. Fly it around between 30 seconds and minute with the joystick
5. Calibrate
6. Turn on Absolute control
7. Turn off joystick

Makes it work as expected everytime if I follow the steps.

Re: Absolute Controls are reversed

I have the same problem with mine!  And I have a Samsung Galaxy S2!  HELP!!!
