Topic: FreeFlight and iOS6

There will be a new version of Apple's iOS Operating System that will be released this Fall. It will not be compatible with the first generation iPad or any but the 4th generation of the iPod Touch.

But will Parrot be releasing an updated version of FreeFlight that will work on the new system?

And more importantly to me, will Parrot be releasing a version that will work on the updated 4th Generation iPod Touch that will enable the Absolute Control feature to function? At present, the iPod Touch is unsuitable with the ar.drone 2.0 because Absolute Control is disabled.

I bought my an iPod Touch at the same time as the ar.drone thinking that they would work well together - silly me! It sits on a shelf gathering dust.

Re: FreeFlight and iOS6

The iPod Touch doesnt have a compass / magnetometer so you will never be able to use Absolute Control and I think the current app for iOS will work on the lastest OS without any changes.

Strange then that there are Compass apps that work just as well on the 4G iPod Touch as on the 4S iPhone. Since the app makers seem to be able to get around this issue on the iPod Touch, perhaps Parrot could as well with a bit of effort. (I'm just saying...)

Re: FreeFlight and iOS6

I could stand to be corrected but I belive that with iPods they get the information regarding direction from a wifi source.  That is to say they need an internet conection to use those apps correctly.  Whereas, an iPhone has an internal magnometer that works independant of cellular signals or internet connection.  The problem with this of course is that an iPod can only be connected to one wifi source and while your flying that means your drone... no internet.

You could test this by disconnecting your iPod from any wifi signal and than trying a compas or similar app.

iPhone 4 IOS 6
Firmware 2.1.12 and never going to change...EVER

Copied from the description in the app posted above

" Star Walk app creates an exceptionally precise compass on a device with no compass! "

It's just a gyro compass... not very accurate... not very reliable no matter what they're trying to sell you in the description

That may be, but it has NOTHING to do with the subject of this board.

Who are these spam artists who keep highjacking the discussions with non-sequitur comments? Is there no way to block them access to this forum?

I agree. Come on, Parrot. Get some moderators on here that can clean this stuff out and ban the violators!

Re: FreeFlight and iOS6

For anyone testing IOS 6, a word of caution...  You can use FreeFlight to fly the drone, but you will be flying blind - no video from the camera.  I have also tried other apps like A.R. Race and A.R. Rescue and they are more specific in that they give you a "video connection alert".  I have tried this with both an iPad (gen 3) and an iPhone 4s.  Hopefully before IOS 6 is publicly released, either IOS will be fixed or there will be new versions out of all the A.R. Drone apps that work with it.

I wouldn't count on a speedy fix from Apple. It is really up to Parrot to keep their apps in line with Apple's specifications.

I really hope that Parrot avails themselves of the iOS6 SDK and modifies the FreeFlight app accordingly - real quick!

So sad, that iPod's been out for awhile so there's surly a new one out in the fall.
