Re: Freeflight with drone facing me

You will have more control on your hands as well as for the drone if you turn off the accelerometer and use the screen instead.

I think we all find it confusing i certainly do, i might try disabling the Accelerometer though sounds like a Plan.

Re: Freeflight with drone facing me

A trick I learned years ago flying RC planes is to turn your back towards the drone looking at it over your shoulder. Now the controls will be correct (left is left right is right).

Re: Freeflight with drone facing me

It is a common problem for new pilots to feel like the controls are backward when flying towards yourself.  It just takes time to train your brain to picture yourself in the AR Drone as opposed to watching the AR Drone.  One thing you can do, especially outside, is to watch the screen, then you are in the cockpit perspective.  So, just keep practicing and you'll get used to it.

If you want to practice getting the perspective you can get an RC Plane Flight Sim for your computer and log some time on it.  It doesn't really matter which type of aircraft, but you'll be able to practice without breaking anything smile  This is an Open Source simulator http://crrcsim.berlios.de/wiki/

As far as settings go.  Reduce the controls while you are learning how to fly the AR Drone.  As you get more confident begin to increase the sensitivity and speed at which the AR Drone will fly.  Also, while you are learning, keep the indoor shell on, it will help save your props and motors.

Good luck and have fun!

Just updated Drone Ace with a new flying mode you might like.

It's called simple mode. You can fly without thinking about the direction of the AR.Drone.

Just start by standing behind the drone, with the drone facing away from you.

After you take off... if you roll left, the AR.Drone will roll to your left, not it's left. It doesn't matter about the heading of the drone after that.
e.g. if it is facing you and you command it left, it will go to your left (it's right).

You can see more about it here:
