Hi people.

One simple question. How much time does it take for the Asteroid to change between wam and cold boot?

I mean, when I turn off my car and turn it on a few minutes later, Asteroid turns on inmediately (warm boot), continuing song playing. If I wait several hours, Asteroid makes a cold boot, and I have to wait for starting up sequence (as you may know, it can take more than a minute) and wait for iPod/USB to be ready, and then press on the Power on/play button to start playing.

I've checked wirings and they're all fine, I don't lose date/time on Asteroid. It has constant 12v power supply direct from battery.

Is it a bug or a feature?

its a (feature) of the software implementation TonyCool... i believe the stated time is 30 mins for a warm boot to become a cold boot.

I really don't understand why a cold boot (or even the need for the unit to have one) should have to effect the playback functions of the Asteroid as it does - surely it wouldn't be a difficult software implementation for the unit to write a simple file to memory containing the last state of playback (source info, track playing etc) when shut down...which is then immediately referred to upon start up...If the same source is found and nothing has changed then playback continues as previous, but if the source has been removed or changed then the unit simply defaults to say the radio....A very simply text file containing this info would use a minuscule amount of internal memory/energy to store I would have thought, at least for a reasonable amount of time like 24hrs - perhaps if the car isn't used for longer then the memory is dumped...

Just seems a crazy situation and a classic example of where advanced technology is actually resulting in a end user experience that is inferior to a 20 year old radio that went before it....!

To be honest, that's a bit harsh... A 20 year old radio just had to stay tuned..!

If you look at the NUMBER ONE issue that most people have, its always something to do with an Apple product. The iPhone 4S is causing many problems and an iPod needs a proprietary connection.... So Android and APPLE really don't mix it seems! I'm sure Parrot are dying to use some sort of Android music player and then you'll probably see a seamless connection.

Clearly, and obviously a problem, is that on shutdown, the Asteroid does a memory dump or has a capacitor that discharges after half an hour and the Android 1.5 implementation doesn't write audio source info to a useful powered RAM  or ROM location.  A bit like your laptop/smartphone being put on standby and instantly switching back on - then if you power it completely off you have to start at the beginning again..

30 minutes? only 30? honestly that's awkward. How much power can use from car's battery this radio in StandBy mode? Would be very useful to enlarge or personalize this time, ie. 24 hours as low, so, when you go to work, calss, home, etc, and use your car again, it'd be ready for use.

Some phones, such HTC Desire series, have a "instant power on mode", so, in fact, when you turn it off, it can be turned on again in less than 5 seconds. Take a look at http://youtu.be/DbtCLKANMzI (it's in russian but you can see it well). Asteroid could have something like this.

I had to rewire all my car to get a direct 12v from battery to radio... only for not losing date and time...  sad

BTW, I have an 1G iPod Touch connected to Asteroid and, every now and then (it has happened twice since I got Asteroid) it gets freeze and have to reboot it (iPod, power and main button pressed for 12 secs). This dind't happen with MKi 9100 I had, I think compatibility must be fixed...
