Topic: Unit does not power down properly when I turn ignition off

My Asteroid unit does not power down with the "Goodbye" message when I turn off my ignition. I see the instruction in the FAQ to resolve this, but I do not follow the instructions "This can be done simply by reversing the two terminal lugs located on the Parrot wiring." is there a photograph or illustration of this procedure? What is a terminal lug? Thanks!

Gregm:

On the wiring harness on the back of the unit there is a red wire with a connector on it, and a yellow wire with a connector on it. Unplug the red wire and plug it into the yellow wire, then unplug the yellow wire and plug it into the red wire. Turn the ignition switch on, then off, and watch for the "Goodbye" message in the display.  If you see it, you're good to go.

PS:  a connector is a "terminal lug".

Thanks for the reply! I'll try that out this week.

Re: Unit does not power down properly when I turn ignition off

My unit, running 1.6.1, does not always power down with the "Good Bye" message either.  I've swapped the Yellow (Batt) and Red (ACC) wires back and forth to no avail.  When the wires are swapped(red to yellow and yellow to red), the unit does not power up.  When the wires are normal/default (red to red, yellow to yellow), I get some odd behavior:

Sometimes I have to wait about 20 seconds for it to boot (when starting the car) while other times it seems to resume right to the same source or menu, just paused.

The power to the unit also stays on for about 3 seconds after the car is off.  This suggests to me the wires DO need to be swapped.  However, swapped does not work, won't boot, blows fuse.

All of which makes me very nervous about the longevity of the unit.  Seems like I'm powering down/up the unit incorrectly quite often.

I think I may pull the unit and redo the wiring, checking for the volts on yellow and red to be 12 and not 11.x.  I would almost think it have been wise for them to put a replaceable battery on the back of the unit like seen on modern phones.  The battery could persist a state in "off" mode and always draw a charge from the battery.

Re: Unit does not power down properly when I turn ignition off

On first boot of the day it is normal to take about 20 seconds to boot.  Should take no more than 5 to ten seconds to power down, this is normal.  If it reboots withing 15-20 minutes, it is normal to "quick" boot, anything longer than that, it shuts radio down completely to save on battery drain, then it will take the normal 20 seconds to boot again.
